What we do

Residential care

We believe all tamariki and rangatahi deserve safe and nurturing care in a calm and stable environment. From babies to young adults, our live-in caregivers welcome them into family homes at our purpose-built village in Tāmaki Makaurau.

A nurturing community

The Dingwall community provides the warmth and connection of a whānau environment. Each cottage operates as an individual family home, providing safety and stability and helping tamariki and rangatahi build routines and adjust to their new normal.

Keeping whānau groups together is important to us. Strengthening the relationships between siblings during challenging times is a unique feature of the care provided in cottages. Tamariki and rangatahi also benefit from connection with peers living in other cottages, supporting a sense of belonging and reducing feelings of isolation.

A strong sense of togetherness exists between the cottages, with each one helping the others out. Dingwall is often likened to marae-style living with its shared spaces for meeting, celebrating, reflecting and learning. The main hall – a symbol of Dingwall history – provides a place for celebrations, meetings, pōwhiri, and whakatau.

We also offer many communal facilities for tamariki to hang out, play and learn together. These include the large playgrounds, fields, basketball courts and pool.

Growth – purposeful plans

Purposeful plans provide opportunities for growth; we develop plans that are developmentally appropriate, and contribute to and support tamariki and rangatahi goals and aspirations.

Purposeful planning is a continuous process, plans are developed and reviewed in partnership with everyone who plays in a role in contributing to success for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau, including tamariki themselves.

“We wanted to create a place for the children to heal and a space where complex behaviour could be understood.”
